But I also understand, I am child of the 60s, remember that John Lennon song from 1974, "whatever gets you through the night........ do it wrong, or do it right", https://youtu.be/6lFTD9O-XMw well that was back then. And "are you for real" is pretty much a valid question. It is , however, sad that " are you for real" is even a valid question for our kids to ask of us. We have normalized "a make believe" concept of a family, our promises to our kids are no more factual than "there is a Santa Claus". Yes, they are kids, it the same kids that wanted the same book read to them everyday and the same bedtime story every single night, and now they ask if we are for real. But atleast they question, we, the "grownups" on the other hand have grown so accustomed to lying and being lied to that we no longer know the difference. We actually enjoy lying and being lied to and believing in lies "of others and our own" that we don't even question. We pay people to tell us lies that we want to hear, the preachers, the police, the law makers, the lawyers, the pimps and psychologists. It's wonderful world. Then I wake up, and I am mindful that the root word for honor is "honestus" which is "honest", yet we honor or liars and demand that our lies be respected. The world has a strange way of paying us back. Be it the environmental degradation, the population decline, or spread of a disease or wars, pollution, storms, death, crime, corruption all result from our faith in lies. LIFE IS A GAME OF CONNECT THE DOTS, IF YOU DON'T CONNECT ALL THE DOTS OR DON'T CONNECT THEM IN THE RIGHT ORDER YOU NEVER GET THE PICTURE ANOTHER DAY 6 I guess I missed a couple of days, I needed rest, time to study, time to learn new things, learning to ley go, still. It is our egos, our hubris, often that makes us choose the wrong path, the wrong approach. How many times we go shopping and fill up the basket, still loading up more, we want everything, we get arm loads of stuff and still try to pick up as the stuff already in our arms falls. There is a play in poker where you drop that bad cards and hope to draw a better hand. In the end though, you still have the same number of cards. There are signs in everything, there are lessons to be learned, good ones and the bad ones. Here we should learn to limit our wants, when we overload our buggies or arms, or we drop something maybe something we really wanted, more than others. Similarly we could learn to give up the bad cards and hope to get something better instead. Holding on to a sinking ship is never a good move, no matter what. We can let the fear hold us hostage or allow the fear to be a motivator. No matter who we are or where we are, the life will change greatly in the next twenty years, or even ten. So many today are being blackmailed in to choosing what will truly be a catastrophe in any case. Sometimes we don't like to make choices because they are not what we want, sometimes we are not looking for advice, we are looking for a painless solution, especially when it is already too late. We don't want to have to work, we want handouts without strings attached. We get comfortable in our misery till we wake up one day and realize that it doesn't have to be that way, there is another way. But leave it to us humans, when asked to grab our nose, way too many will try to reach around their heads, but to get from a to c, the easiest way is to go through c, whether you want to or not, that is also the right way. As the world is changing, and we have put it on that course, the solution is not infighting, the solution is not you and i fighting, the solution is to work together and move forward, reduce our wants and make the right choices, and find a workable path, at least for now. Strange. We need "time", for the universe to keep expanding. All the laws of universe depend upon time, speed of light is limited by time, speed of electrons in an atom around nucleus, gravitional waves, everything. Days, months and years of our lives, and the time since the Big Bang. Not that time is material, or important, but we pay it a lot of attention, yet we waste it like we ourselves, have a lot of time in our lives, and we have designed so many ways to waste what we have. Not just on line, or just procrastinating, we spend more time making excuses about why we don't have time than we have spent doing what needed done. One things is for sure, even the science knows, that we can not go back in time, science fiction stories not withstanding. No matter what the slogans say, wherever we end up will be the "future" like it or not. And change is inevitable, I am not the person that started writing this last night and decided to go to bed instead, I am a day older. Just like you are also. We can not undo what has happened since last night, let alone over the last however many years and decades, and we don't have the time to go into details of all of that. It will surely be a waste. Let's just talk about you or I. If you are not better off, if you are not happy with how things are, what would you like to change? And what it will look like when that change is made? No one wants to honestly answer that question without so many caveats. There is always some other wish, a desire, an agenda. We cannot get across the river with a boat tied to the shore still. ( well you can, under some conditions, but that is another story). And although there is a theory about the otherside of our universe (mirror universe) where time itself flows backwards, it is hard to imagine a universe where old dead people come to life and "grow" younger and become babies, you know where that is going. We say (most us do) we take life to seriously, I wish we did , look around, give me a few examples of such people. Most of us don't realize that we are "living", most of don't understand that where we are today is all because of the road we took, all that didn't matter at one time seems to matter now, if we were to be honest with ourselves. If we are on our 4th marriage and happy, and have six different sets of grandkids is because we have learned to accept all our failures and shortcomings as not so. And it is harder to forgive yourself until the ship of life is upright and floating again. A child recognizes the difference between a nipple and pacifier when it is hungry. I WILL WRITE MORE SOON M. The two maxims that follow "know thyself" were "nothing to excess" and "certainty brings insanity". Wikipedia I admit that I am afraid, I have secrets, I hide things from others, I don't want anyone to find out who I really am, my dearest friends, my family, there are things that will go with me to my grave. I am sure that the same is true about most ( not all, by any means, especially you, the one reading this). Speaking in generalities only. Yesterday, I talked about what we call light, what we call seeing, but the truth is that we do not "see", per se, the light is focused on the nerve cells, and our brain tries to translate the image based on what we have "taught it". There is a story that the ancient Mexicans that had never seen a sail ship, thought that those ships were floating islands. And didn't most of the ancient culture believe the sun to be "god". Can you explain a "cat" to someone what is cat when there is no cat and they have never seen one, and also they can't see anyway. We don't know who we are, we can't see ourselves, we don't want to know who we really are and we show others what we want them to think. Few are honest enough to tell all, even fewer care to know. And we are a creation of our mind, don't believe me? There are people that believe that they are the "Jesus", there are skinny people that think they are fat, there obese people that believe they are healthy, and ofcourse we know of people that after an amputation still feel that phantom limb, there are experiments that show that people's reflexes react when some stimulus is applied to a fake limb. And we have something we call a "munchausen syndrome". So what is reality? Light does not exist. Really, it is only that our eyes are made to see some certain frequencies of "energy", and lucky that we only see those certain frequencies or there is so much energy floating around in the universe that we couldn't "see" anything, our brains would be overwhelmed. Your partner and your children are away from you for a period of time, what happened during that time? Did the smoke? Did they have a drink? Did they have an affair? Did the child have sex? Or a million other possibilities. They are literally older now since you seen them last, millions of their body cells have died, millions new one were generated. We don't know reality we only care about what is "obvious", we don't know what they were thinking. We don't even know what the person sitting next to us is feeling. We create our own reality to the limit of what we know. "We are limited in our knowledge (understanding) by what we know". (M. N. R.) It is hard yet to understand. Consider light, I light really a thing? Yes we can measure it, we know its speed, we know how bright, but can we actually put light in a can or a box and carry it around? Then how is it a thing? We imagine it to be so? A rock has a potential to destroy a home, a truck, even a bunch of homes, but things have to be right, same is true of us humans, we are potentially everything, good, bad, indifferent and everything else, but things have to be "right", so is a rock the same as a person? What is then the "thing in itself" who are we? Do we know? How can you or I define a person, when the person himself has no idea? If you were to write your own true story, with every true detail, with every true motivation, you too will probably disown you, you too will probably not know yourself. We live by impulses, by the urge to try to fit in, to please someone, to please ourselves in the moment, so what are we? What do we become, what becomes of us? Our political ideology, our preferences and our prejudices, our faith our religion, our relationships, our regrets, all depend upon something external, we are different only in as much as we claim to be different when we are not at all. I do go there, I do talk about things other than psychology and politics. Reality is a big topic, and every part matters, or nothing matters, both points of view are equally valid. Depending on my mood of the day. We do know that mathematics and sciences evolved from philosophy. We all know about the Pythagorian equation but few know that he was a philosopher and even had his own cult followers. It is hard to talk about the universe, the time and the multiverse without becoming philosophical. Can we be a part of the universe and still look at it as an outsider, of course all of us know something about it, but what we know is based on our personal level of "study", whatever we know is thus colored by our own background The same is true about individuals, what we think of a person, or understand of a situation, is always based on what we know of that person or situation, colored by our own preferences and also our prejudices. As Kant tried to clarify in his philosophy of "the thing in itself", we need to look at people and situations as they are and not as we think they are, easier said than done, right! Remember hope is also the crutch for the dying, and the other that are hopeless. And yet I do believe in miracles and do believe in solutions that actually work. A misplaced hope is a waste of time, prayers also work better when there is some action involved. Sometimes we need to give a miracle a chance to happen, like when people survive an accident, the accident must first happen for them to survive. I'm just kidding, or may be not, but a broken heart must first break for it have a chance at mending. Faith is something, but faith on the lips is nothing, faith requires sincerity, it requires a commitment, it requires full trust, and it requires surrender. We can fake our way for a very long time, but we can't live a lie forever, though we try, we try hard, but one day somewhere somehow it fails. And some do get away with it, but what if it doesn't work? We keep digging the hole, we keep digging and the we hit water and drown, or dig so deep that we can't get out, yes miracles do happen, take a chance if you like. Luckily, we live in a society today, where everyone is a liar, and no one dares call another out because it will only expose them also, take a chance. We get comfortable, no one calls anyone else out, no one points a finger at their own kind, because it is just pointing a finger at yourself. So where we go from here, we all lie, we all lie about our commitments, our relations, our acts, and our intentions. The whole poem is worth reading, worth meditating upon, to reflect, to understand, to internalize. But, we are humans, aren't we the ones that squint, or even close our eyes when the lights shine bright, yes, we don't want to see the "whole truth", we want to live in our own reality, our own facts. When nature, when circumstances nudge us, guide us toward the shore, we fight the waves of time. At the start of the movie "Gladiator" there is a dialogue , "People should know when they are conquered", to which Maximus replies, " would you, Quintas, would I", such is the human nature, but who can understand, fifty percent of humanity has below average minds. "ALL TRUTHS ARE BUT HALF TRUTHS " We do not wish to admit defeat, yet in all military campaigns we know when to escape and regroup, we survive to fight another day, or atleast to change strategy. We must learn to open our eyes, to see where we are. As the waves of time try to nudge us to the shore, we are only focused on the siren songs that will take us to the rocks and smash our souls. We promise to change but we don't, we wish to fight the system that we created, we forget that we are the system, we follow any Pied Piper but we are lost. But what is even more important is the line before that , "I'll go home and I'll think of some way to get him back.", Sadly we never want to stop, never give up, and that is a perfectly good approach to many situations in life, in work, in studies, in a profession. But the same attitude can be destructive in many other situations in life. Sometimes we have to understand that the whole idea is counterproductive and a waste of time. And even if tomorrow is an other day, our days are numbered. We stay involved in non-productive endeavors, in relationships that are not going anywhere, in addiction, in lousy careers. Sometimes, instead of facing a problem on its own we also blame one problem for all of the rest of the problems, even if true it doesn't solve any of the problems which must be dealt with individually. Taking up drinking, or doing drugs or having affairs has never solved any problems. And then there is the very real problem of the late 20th, early 21st century of "finding one's self", and I can empathize. Well have you lost something? How can you fund yourself when you haven't "lost yourself". Isn't ironic? To find yourself you must first lose yourself. But we live in the "me" age, it is all about "me", it is always about "me". And we go searching for "myself", we are so deeply attached to our own egos, that the idea of "losing" ourself is inconceivable, we don't even understand the concept, we can't even pretend to. Things are not "different" in an interconnected world. It is how we connect them one to the other. We are all looking at the same picture and see things totally differently, and therein lies to problem. We can be friends, understand eachother, see the other person's point of view, or look at the picture differently and refuse to understand what the other person is seeing. We live in the same world, on the same planet, we have the same economy, same problems, crime, poverty, unemployment, sorry education system, overloaded prisons, pollution, and the problems are not local, they are nationwide and worldwide, yet we, each one of us sees something different. Let's once again ponder the famous quote from Shakespeare " All the world is a stage, and all the men and women merely players", but what role? When we watch a great movie, or we read a really interesting book, we become involved in the story itself, we want the story to take one direction or the other, we don't know how the story will end, yet we, in our mind wish. We take on the role of the hero, or the heroine, or the villain if we so desire, actually we take on all the characters. We want to be a part of the story. No? Think about it, we see children role play the characters of their favorite shows, we are just not that "obvious", but then again what are "fan clubs" and "comic cons", and how about those "furries. There us no track that we can take, no move that we can make today will change that. I have mentioned this before, the population will decline drastically, life will become harder, and there will be two kinds of people, the masters and the slaves. Within the "system" on will live by the rules of the system, those that reject the system will be banished and will not survive long. Many today have an almost romantic view of life outside the said "system" , the fantasy world of "MadMax", or "Book of Eli", where the tough ones hunt the hapless like it is a game. It will not be like that, luckily even as such it will not last an year. What the survivalist believe in their major fantasy is that they will still have farm equipment, fuel and parts for their tractors, and seed and the rest. With supply chain gone, that will not be a possibility. What the rich and the industrialists belive that with the population down bellow a billion or half that production will continue as always, and the "masses" will continue to obey the masters. The "futurists" believe that even if the earth becomes inhabitable we can colonize Mars or something. None of this is realistic. There is far chance that we can even have 5,000 people living on Mars or even the moon in the next 50 years. First step here should be to start moving the population centers further away from the coasts, the money spent on hurricane relief should be used to move people further inland and not rebuilding on the shoreline, as with billions spent after Katrina, Andrew, Sandy, Michael and Ian, we could have hundreds of thousands away from the coast, yes you can go to the beach, party at the beach and all but you just have to live 20 miles inland. Last night I talked about how we create our own reality, again. And here we are, we hate the world, we hate the government, we hate our neighbors, "all others" , defined and undefined, for world that "they" have created for us, we never admit that we had anything to do with it, of course, we ate always beyond reproach. Welcome to the 21st century, it almost a quarter over too, you know. People like myself (in there 70, or younger ones, in their 60s or 50s never admit that we were party to the ruining of the society. Now we complain how the world has changed, that there is a conspiracy, we forget that we were always willing to change, to be the avant-garde, and we destroyed ourselves and the country and now we search for someone else to place the blame on. Yes there is a conspiracy, and it covers all countries and continents, it is enslave the population, to reduce the population and to limit the power in the hands of a few "elite". And we think that the "elite" the billionaires have our best interest in their heart, whether it is buying the Congress or backing a presidential candidate ot loading the Supreme Court with their handpicked ideologues. Why not, the ones that are "the Cabal" are also our friends and benefactors. O how innocent we are. We will never buy snake oil though. We don't listen to the "corrupt" media, we only like the media that is paid to tell us what we want to hear. And we also know. There is a very simple equation in Algebra, a+b = c, can't get any simpler than that, but can anyone, anywhere know what c is if either "a" or the "b" is not known. But we don't care, we honestly don't care what either the "a" or the "b" is we only care about one or the other, and we think that we can figure "c" out regardless. Plato recognized it in his "Allegory of the Cave". How many still watch a movie, or read a book or follow a show and have to be told what the message was, or what a scene meant, what a character really meant. Life is complicated, those that understand the least make up their own truths, it eases the pain of existence. We have philosophers, we have psychologists, we have politicians and many others that tell us things, tell us how to feel or what "things mean", how they affect us, and we buy it all, lock stock and barrel. But we listen to others we only admit to our ignorance, we admit that we don't understand things, we all child like, we are the buyers of snake oil, we are ready to be conned and mislead, and we are taken advantage of. It is simple, it works like a charm, every time. No one wants to be wrong though, and to admit that one is or has been wrong is unimaginable. And the knowledge has always been there, but we were, we are too busy to learn. Even in our suffering we can always find excuses as to why we suffer, we don't take responsibility, it is nature, it is the circumstances, or who knew, whether it is accident caused by inattention, or drug and alcohol use or it is a hurricane that wipes out a city built too close to water, and nature is always a great fall back. We don't even try to mitigate the damage when we know the cause, we deny that we had the neccessary information to take corrective steps. Our country keeps going deeper in debt, our cities and towns resemble a third world concoction and we are happy We are so well adjusted to being a failure that we don't even search for answers, we are too busy enjoying our total ignorance. The modern culture and society has been designed do deliver material goods but our souls are empty, our stomachs are full yet our hearts are empty. We search for meaning in life, but we have little idea as to what will fulfill us, so we grab at the straws. The society that promised us, we can have it our way, has left us wanting. Happiness that we look, and work so hard for is fleeting at best. We want everything to be handed to us, delivered to us and we have no idea, no appreciation for what we have, it has been all so easy. Being successful today is not really that hard, money is easy, credit is easy, labor is cheap and we pat ourselves on our backs because we "worked so hard". Not really. In the United States today, one person in a hundred is a millionaire, so being one is not such a big deal, people can become millionaire by just finding a good lawyer and suing the VA, the social security or a doctor even. Most millionaires become such by borrowing a lot of money and getting others to do the work, some get into politics and sell their soul, no one becomes rich by digging ditches all day or picking strawberries. Those that are not able to get shortcuts, have family money, or other connections can take decades of actual work to make that kind of money. Either way, most of those that do make some kind of money by "using the system" also complain about how the system is broken. Just like those that rant against big government, and government spending or socialism are also going to Florida to help with the "recovery", because the money will be growing on the trees there now. LIFE IS A GAME OF CONNECT THE DOTS, IF YOU DON'T CONNECT ALL THE DOTS OR DON'T CONNECT THEM IN THE RIGHT ORDER YOU NEVER GET THE PICTURE INTO THE ABYSS 195 B Well, it didn't take long for #Facebook to restrict me for the next thirty days, as my last post called their censorship fascist, they found something in my comments that didn't meet their "community standards", by now I am used to it. Atleast they didn't unpublish me yet. In any case, I had been telling you for days about my back at 1TOMBSTONE2.WORDPRESS.COM , give it a like and follow also, thank you. As we know that the country, as well as the whole world, is facing a multitude if problems, and there is no easy, simple or quick solutions, if there are, no one knows. In such a situation it is easier to search for quick fixes, and sadly, over the last 70 or years, we , the humanity, have come to believe that yes there are, and we can still have our way. There is one thing that we all must admit. If there is a scam and someone is scammed, then the person being scammed was a willing participant, wittingly or unwittingly doesn't matter. Most people that are scammed will tell you that they "fell for it". We live in the age of information, and there is information of all kinds available, but it is your choice as to what you want to believe, if it happens to be a scam, you buy into it, no one else's fault. We all want to appear to be smart, going back the example once again of the "snake oil salesman", they always had a plant in the crowd that will step and make a buy to encourage the rest. Somethings never change. Today think tanks are employed, the media companies have an agenda, the billionaires control what you can or cannot hear, it is a lot easier to be made a fool of. This goes on every level of our society today, our spending habits, buying more than we can afford, to our personal intimate relationships and even our child rearing, no boundaries needed, we know it will always turn out right in the end, until it does not, and then we declare our worst failures either a success, or we just say that we tried.
