A QUESTION FOR YOU

06/30/2010

A QUESTION FOR YOU

One could easily assume that thing are changing too fast,  that would be false, things are continuing on the same path for years while you have been asleep, dazed or too lazy to understand. You see some people believe it is a continuation of the conspiracy hatched on an Island of the South Georgia coast, that is also not true since no one knew a hundred years ago where the science and the society will be today.

To me, the question has never been simple, I am not a genius, so life has not come easy to me, thinking, pondering, being careful and observing to learn to live in this new and complicated world. Some people know everything, I do not, some have simple solutions I have none. I have been able to convince a university to grant me a Master's degree in psychology, a Bachelor's in business, but I am unconventional in that I do not agree with much what they taught me in schools. Then if you know me I don't agree with much or many and so be it.

I am amazed at the people who call in to talk shows, -I told some one once, that if had a three hour conversation with "Jesus" with all due respect, I am bound to find things we did not agree upon (you can replace the name of your favorite holy person with "Jesus"),-  and say I agree with everything you say. No wonder the clowns with these talk shows are getting rich and laughing their cumulative asses to the bank, how stupid we are.

Like I said, I am not a genius, I have learned more about philosophy and psychology from comics than I did from books and college. Along with Kafka, Plato, Hesse, Nietzsche, Koran, Bible, Faulkner, Steinbeck,  We can name Erma Bombeck, Mark Twain, Charles Shulz,  Berkeley Breathed, Bill Watterson  and of course Gary Larson and Jim Unger as my guiding lights through the life.

You may find it  funny, even absurd that the boy is asking for five grand to clean his room, but so what, J.K. Rowling,  Hilary Clinton, Oprah, Limbaugh, Diablo Cody  and others are paid millions (if you think I am jealous, I am not, I have plenty my self thank you)  so why not a boy get five grand. On the other hand we get things for our kids that our own parents could have never dreamed of, and for just being, from Cabbage Patch kids for hundreds to the newest cell phones and video games are given to kids for just being born in the middle or upper middle class. We even have a whole generation we proudly call slackers, worse these people now have kids of their own. We failed to teach generations of Americans anything of value, but told them to copy the rich and the ultra rich, like the money will fall into their lap from heaven and they can start practicing to make babies whenever they like. Now as we look at the real hard times ahead we find ourselves almost as lost and confused as if someone took away our cell phone.

Here is how Wikipedia defines Irony.

(((Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning hypocrisy, deception, or feigned ignorance) is a situation, literary technique, or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance that goes strikingly beyond the most simple and evident meaning of words or actions. Verbal and situational irony is often intentionally used as emphasis in an assertion of a truth. The ironic form of simile, irony used in sarcasm, and some forms of litotes may involve the emphasis of one's meaning by deliberate use of language that states the direct opposite of the truth, or drastically and obviously understates a factual connection.
In fictional dramatic irony, the artist causes a character, acting as a mouthpiece, to speak or act in a way intentionally contrary to the truth. This again is a method that highlights the literal facts by giving the example of a fictional persona who is strikingly ignorant of them.
In certain kinds of situational or historical irony that occur outside works of fiction, a certain factual truth is highlighted by some person's complete ignorance, or belief in the opposite, of it—however, this contrast does not occur by human design. In some religious contexts, such situations have been seen as the deliberate work of divine providence to emphasize facts, and taunt or toy with humans for not being aware of them in situations where they could easily have been enlightened (this is similar to human use of irony). Such ironies are often more evident, or more striking, when viewed retrospectively in the light of later developments that make the truth of past situations obvious to all.
Much irony involves commentary that heightens tension naturally involved in the state and fate of a person (in the present, or the past) who badly needs to gain information concerning an easily known given fact but does not.)))

In the cartoon above we see Calvin assuming the role of "God"  (even though he is control of a few small toys), surely you don't think you would ever do that. But think again, we see the same "God" syndrome in many around us, politicians, bankers, loan sharks, police, preachers, presidents, and people who torture others.

Thus the cartoon below that I originally posted alone without comments.

In 2000, my sister had come to visit, her husband had recently lost money in the dot.com bust, which had followed the dot.com boom. i mentioned to her then, " all money today is imaginary, what you have in the pocket, in the bank on your credit card is all imaginary, it does not really exist, it is the numbers they give you to play with keep you in place and happy", ( not so much unlike the boy above in the first cartoon, we are not willing to underestimate our worth).

I should warn you, I had told my son, he is 12, showing him this cartoon (below) and explaining to him that the bigger your ego, the less likely you are to understand it.

Let's though go back to the second cartoon here, the one of Calvin, are we much unlike the poor Cal, he is given a few toys and he thinks he  is GOD, how many among us are just as guilty of the same thought. We want to be in charge, in control we HAVE stuff, the stuff makes us good, it makes us worthwhile, it makes us omnipotent. It is not just George Bush, or Clinton, or Even Elliot Spitzer or Tiger Woods, it is all of us, the city council man, the police man, the congress man, and the banker, and the loan officer, we all assume the role of god in our own lil kingdoms. Does anyone here not know a story or two about the police brutality, or the local mayor being in bed with the developers? Oh yeah! we are all gods, like it or not.

The irony, and the fact that we all forget, and forgot is this that we are all humans, we are all here for a while, this life is temporary. And that no matter what amount of money and power that we have and usurp, in the end we all die. So this last cartoon, Eddie here, in fact is you, Eddie is me, Eddie is all of us, and THAT IS THE REALITY. NOW MAY YOU PLACE YOURSELF IN EDDIE'S CHAIR AND PONDER AGAIN THE FACTS OF YOUR OWN REALITY. This is called life.

A discussion of the " god" syndrome will continue later.

PAKISTAN AFGHANISTAN

06/28/2010

PAKISTAN  AFGHANISTAN

May be I am (I AM) jumping the gun, previously I had commented here that Pakistan is on the verge of becoming the next Somalia, that remains true still. Look at what is going on in Karachi, in Quetta, in Peshawar, Swat and Waziristan. The insurgency is out of control, so is the police and the army. Human rights are being trampled upon by all sides, while the people starve. Power remains with the thugs, civilian and police and military thugs. It is not for the benefit of the average person that Pakistan is trying to get a toe hold in Afghanistan. It is, if, and that is a big IF, it for the benefit of the military and the rich. At the same time the equation is complicated by the newly re-announced find of minerals, which makes it difficult for the US to get out of Afghanistan and leave the extraction to the Indians and the Chinese and to a lesser  extant to Pakistani'. So the US is in there for good. Simultaneously, and I addressed it before, while we complain about the corruption of the Afghan regime, we keep bribing the Afghans ourselves, not to mention the corruption and bribery in our own defense department and in our contracts, and the kick backs. We can not  get rid of the Taliban, we cannot and will not trust the Pakistanis we can not stop bribing everyone there, we do not stop the corruption here. What is the end result we are looking for will we keep killing and getting killed?

YES, THERE ARE TWO PATHS, BUT, 2

06/27/2010

YES, THERE ARE TWO PATHS, BUT, 2

Sooner or later we must cut the budget, not just the budget deficit, but the budget. That involves pain, as in, higher inflation ( cost of goods) and a lower standard of living. i am not  just saying this to scare you, it is the new upcoming reality.

Some already say that this country is going towards the Communism, and we all know what that means. Communism is marked by a lack of resources, corruption, police abuse, lack of human rights, government control of private lives,  rationing, lack of commodities, hunger, starvation.

So what is the promise of an unbridled Capitalism?  We also have examples of the countries with unbridled Capitalism, people make a lot of money, many people get awfully rich. Mexico, Pakistan, and India are such countries and what do we see in these countries could be our own future also. And in case you  did not know these countries also have a lack of resources, corruption, police abuse, lack of human rights, government control of private lives,  rationing, lack of commodities, hunger, starvation.

I love our Constitution, and the freedoms and liberties it guarantees, and many of my friends want to go back to those time of little government,  But I am also mindful that when our constitution was written, the slavery was legal, many whites were also indentured slaves and not just blacks. We did not have the internet or the international commerce and free trade.

Those today who talk of freedom and even secession, do not really know what they will do if the got what they wanted. Walter Williams, Glenn Beck, Alex Jones, Chuck Baldwin, do not have a plan for any future, no vision, but then neither does the Taliban. On the other hand , the people who want to enslave us through,  low taxes and broke government do have a plan, not much different than the one of the Communist.

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE ?4

06/26/2010

if you have been reading this post , please continue reading it over, as I am still adding to it. You might like it.

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE ?4

While you are watching "Who's Line is it Any Way", the leaders of your world meet in Toronto to decide your fate.

Oh, so that is not your problem, or what can YOU do, your4 future is in the hands of those who are working for the banks, the billionaires.

In reality, the world is broke, I have said this before, and since the governments are broke, they must borrow form whoever. We just tend to forget, or  not know that we are the borrowers, and we have spent all the money already, all we have is debts, we owe, not to other nations per se, but to people, to humans , who now, like the Shysters, want a pound of flesh, our flesh.

How is it that we want to talk about the global trade, when the gulf is full of oil, the planet is warming, we are running out of resources and money?  Or is there another plan, a plan of which we are not to be told?

SERIES OF THE UNFORTUNATE? 3

Here we were , talking about  character and boundaries and keeping limits and the story breaks of General McChrystal  and the ill fated interview. you could agree or disagree with his comments, you could argue whether he should or should not have been fired. My point is as to what it reveals about us as a nation.

We have no secrets, we are Jerry Springer, Oprah, The Real Wives of New Jersey  nation. We discuss incest and affairs of the heart on national TV. Even the esteemed NPR does not shy away from a lady talking about her love (in a sexual manner) of her parrot, or a lady writer talking about the steamy, albeit, imaginary infatuation of a sister for her brother.

Isn't any thing sacred anymore, or a secret, then why all the fuss about a general letting it all hang out about his Commander-in Chief , even as we talk about the Gore break up in a number of tawdry terms. The hypocrisy of us asking others and more specifically asking of our leaders to be something different than we are. In reality, if art imitates life, and the sitcoms and the reality TV is what we are as human beings, I don't hold much hope for our future, with or without McChrystal, I actually don't think we should have a future.

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE ?2

06/21/2010

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE ?2

A while back I had asked,  how is it that we ask our representatives to be ethical and moral when the nation has done away with such archaic codes and unnecessary and cumbersome behavior. We (the Majority white) easily and with clear conscience point fingers at the bankers and minorities for the housing mess, but what about the builders, the developers, the real estate agents, and the white buyers who were in  it to make a quick buck?

We talk about the moral decline of others, when we have no boundaries or limits for our own behavior, we don't want anyone to tell us how to mind our own manners. It all ties in though, our moral decline has led us to financial ruin, to ethical lapses of the politicians to the increase in  the corrupt influences of the media.

THIS NOT A CALL TO RELIGION, I HAVE NONE MYSELF, IT IS MY CALL TO SOME ETHICAL STANDARDS AND RULES OF BEHAVIOR,

You can not play a game without rules or boundaries, then how can you have a society without any? Both, Adam Smith and Ayn Rand had assumed that the society and persons were moral and looking out for each other. Profit motive should not be confused with greed! Just as we can not  spend  our way to riches, we can not and should not be allowed to sell our countrymen in to slavery and abject poverty.

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE ?

06/20/2010

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE ?

The economy is  down, the unemployment is up, prices are up to ( even as the government keeps lying to you), there is a gusher of oil at the bottom of the gulf, then we "find" rare minerals in Afghanistan and China decide to reevaluate her currency. One would wish to stick there head in the sand, and when the bad news keeps piling on, and even the good news has some real bad consequence.

As we have been told that the medical costs are rising at a nine percent per year rate, cost of education at the state colleges and universities up by an average of ten percent, gold is out of sight and so is the silver, the government says that the inflation is under control. Some one needs to tell these people that when the value of your assets (homes, stocks, ((cash in bank or on hand earning less interest than the rate of inflation))) is declining, ( not many people own gold and silver reserves to amount to anything, may be less than fifteen percent of the population) and the costs are rising, the inflation in general becomes huge, ask anyone trying to live on social security where the increase in benefits is less than the increase in the cost of medicare.

Then ask what is wrong with the Chinese increasing the value of their  "Yuan", is that not what we have been asking for, but then isn't what they say, " be careful what you ask for". Look in your local Wal-mart, or the Dollar general, or Lowes or Home Depot, Office Depot, whatever, everything is Made in China, as the Yuan rises so does the cost of everything you need, ah, you say but that will bring the jobs back, good luck, the Yuan (China) will still rule as it will take for ever, if ever,  for the Chinese wages to match those of the Americans, all this will do in the short run is to create inflation here, thus may be cause the interest rates to go up, or bring down the American standard of living, guess what is the more likely outcome.

PREDICTING THE FUTURE III

if you have been reading this post , please continue reading it over, as I am still adding to it.

All media is entertainment, and all entertainment is education. So it does not have to be a "Housewives of New Jersey"  or Rush Limbaugh, there is no difference, both are designed to be educational and both will corrupt your mind , equally.  Both will make you dumber than you already are, that is if you are not given to critical thinking, something sorely lacking in the United States, and the world.

As the education standards have declined, even at the university levels, and questioning the conventional wisdom is a taboo among the learned, similar minded, "intellectuals" herd themselves in to think tanks that only promote one side of the reality, theirs, thus destroying anyone's ability to think openly. Politics and economic theories have become entrenched religions with no middle ground.

The politicians have exploited this divide for years,  with 50.5, 49.5 elections, the nation has been perfectly divided , and the politicins have used this division for political and monetary gains.

THE MESS IN THE GULF

06/15/2010

THE MESS IN THE GULF

So now you have heard from the president of the United States about the mess in the gulf. I have been blogging about it and also been writing about it on CNN blogs, here is some of what i have said,

 May 28

It is a given that the consumer, and not the BP, the big oil or the government will pay for the damages and the clean up. Now what we need to talk about is that how will effect not just the gulf states and their residents, the beaches, the value of water front properties, the fisheries, the fisher men, the boating, the... marinas, the sea food industry and the food supply of the whole region and country. If the spill persists and the oil mars the beaches along the gulf coast and may be more, we are looking at the lifestyle changes for millions, with higher fuel costs, higher unemployment, the jobs changes required and retraining for the whole industries along the coast line. Decline in the value of water front properties that have already suffered as much as fifty percent decline in values already, now do you understand the little spill and the value of stocks in the oil companies? Exxon Valdez incident happened in a restricted water with few people living around the shore.

Not yet to speak of innumerable diseases and side effect of living in proximity to the oily beaches where the oil residue and fumes will linger for many years to come yet. Will we be willing to pay for the total cost, or will it become a life changing incident for the generations to come.

Just to make sure we are still in the same world, BP is accused of negligence and is asked to pay for all the direct and indirect damages, and losses. Then why is it that the banks and the FED are not accused of the financial ruin of the United States and so many more lives and livelihoods? Is there not an Equal justice clause in the US constitution, then why is no one from the banks and financial institutions being prosecuted for fraud and negligence and incompetence, lets get to the bottom this.

Now that Mr. Obama has spoken there is another question and the question is this, if we succeed in making BP pay for all the damage it has caused, (that is if it can survive as a corporate entity with all the costs involved in the long term rehabilitation of the gulf and the gulf coast areas involved, what company will ever do business in the United States ever, be it searching for oil or run a coal mine or a power plant or a chemical plant? And if yes then at what cost?   And you and I know that this cost ultimately will be borne by the consumer, that is you and me, the truth is that you and I will also pay for the gulf clean up.

PREDICTING THE FUTURE II

06/15/2010

PREDICTING THE FUTURE II

You must admit that there is no "money",  that the money that you and I have is imaginary. It makes the rest easier to understand. I will not give you any money that I have unless I can profit from it, or use your services and I will only give you the minimum I can get by with.

So how it is that we "continue" to have recovery. Obviously what you see as a recovery today is based on government spending. I told you before that the only source of money in the economy is the government, that the rich do not spend their money to improve the standard of living for the poor, but whenever the government is our spending money there are many who are trying to do their best to get the most of it, even by creating jobs for the workers. A contractor makes more money than his average worker, much more, you  do understand that, right. So where does the government get money from? It can get it back through a tax system or just print it, and that is where we are, our government is and has been printing money instead of getting it back through taxes.

PREDICTING THE FUTURE

06/12/2010

PREDICTING THE FUTURE

It is not new, predicting the future is an old profession. My problem is that I don't get any signs from beyond, I don't hear any voices, or see any burning bushes. I am not a philosopher, except that I am always thing things over and try to see the connections. I don't claim to make moral judgments of what I "think" will happen, I only know what the consequences and outcomes will be of certain choices being made, certain actions taken, or not taken.

The humanity has taken certain paths, and today we are in a catch-22, only with this difference, "NO MATTER WHAT ACTIONS WE TAKE NOW, THE CONSEQUENCES AND THE RESULTS WILL BE THE SAME".

Generally speaking, (and don't get an attitude about my language, you will only understand my frustration if you read how long I have been trying to get the people to come to their senses,) we are a nation of masturbators, and the disease has become a international phenom.

Lets talk about the oil spill in  the gulf again for a moment,

Should we ask the government to raise taxes on fuel to help the people and the economies around the gulf in the effected areas?

Are the Southern states still going to clamor for tort reform?

Should those effected by the spill be allowed to organize? Since we hate unions so much, why should there be class action law suits?

If BP goes bankrupt, should the bankrupt government of the United States make these people whole again?

Why are we trying to clean up the birds that will go back and dive into oil again?  Why not the fish and the insects, or at least say the individual oysters and the shrimp ( go back above to the masturbation part, you do these things to please your own self only, they have no reason or a known benefit otherwise. Like kinda going to a spa.

We are either lied to or our leaders are all stupid, or they believe that if are kept uninformed they would be easily taken to the slaughter as so many sheep.
Staying with the energy problem  for now, we have been offered the ethanol, and the solar or wind power as the panacea, none of these is a solution and all have their own problems, any nuclear power still is years away. ( Not to say that the Nuclear power has no problems but then so does the fossil fuel  choice.)

In his inaugural address of 2007, President Bush had offered a plan to get the country on to the bio fuels and more specifically  on ethanol, with in two weeks i wrote to the president as to what was wrong with his plan, months and months before, the National Geographic or the U.S.NEWS saw any problems, if you  read what I said, I did not leave much out.
The problems with the solar and the wind power are so numerous  that they will create more jobs in cleaning up the mess than they will create in the energy production and distribution.

It is no state secret that the wind and the solar energy are not reliable, winds slow down or die, sun may or may not come out tomorrow, and for days, thus the power must be stored, (of course we will have fossil fuel powered back up any way so the expense of having power plants as we know them is not going to go away).
As we know if today the storage of power ( and not near enough to run a town for even hours) will require massive amounts of batteries, made of no less than the lead, sulfuric acid and cadmium, some of the most dangerous and poisonous items, not yet going in to other uses of these. Not just how will these be used, worse how we plan to  dispose of these?

THE PROPHECY

Dear Tom,  other readers,
Tom, thanks for your comment, at least now I know that someone has been reading this, still. I know I am not writing as much as before, and it is becoming sort of redundant and boring, haha.  I would love to find something new, instead of saying I told you so, again. I sit here, watching it all happen, as I saw it coming, and waited for it to happen, it has not been encouraging.

Some say that the BP 's "New Horizon" accident was a conspiracy, some said that about 9/11 also. Was it an accident and what will be the consequences?  I have been answering that question for days. Then I came across this article

by: James Howard Kunstler, t r u t h o u t | Op-Ed

The upcoming decline  in the United States living standards as well as those of the European countries has been in the cards for a while, as we look to Europe we should be seeing our own future, and how will we live then? I had predicted years ago that we will live in vertical communities where everything will be within walking distance, shopping, schools, libraries and work all in the same place. I did a whole series on the "Death of a Civilization".
in 2008.

Of course you can also read the post below about the BP oil spill again

REVOLUTIONARY IDEAS III

I am mad, angry and disappointed, all of it.  I hope that the people who do come across my writings have something to say, a comment an idea or even some critique, it can't be that the whole damn world is brain dead. Or that I am talking in a vacuum.

I know my ideas are  somewhat out of the main stream,  and I am sure you have some ideas, may not be original, but you  do read and follow news, keep up with the politics, the economy, your own religion, whatever it may be, may be you will like to tell me off, or exchange views.
